Skype for Business Lync Night Mode

Skype for Business Lync Night Mode can be set with 1 Click or a definable keyboard shortcut.

In Skype for Business (Lync) enterprise voice implementations it is very common to need the ability for a receptionist to easily switch between a business hours call flow and after business hours call flow. This is often called “Night Mode” switch functionality. In this article we will describe how to achieve Skype for Business Lync Night Mode functionality.

How it works: During the day calls come to receptionist, and at the end of the day they can easily forward calls to a hunt group/RGS/Call Queues, Auto Attendant, a voicemail or another extension or Skype for Business user. Brian Ricks & Chad McGreanor do a good job of giving an overview how to setup Skype for Business Lync Night Mode call flows. A couple challenges with using the Call Forwarding user interface in Skype for Business (Lync) client:

  • Call Forwarding is at least 3 clicks
  • No way to pre configure the Night Mode call forwarding
  • It’s too easy for receptionist to accidentally select the wrong forwarding settings
  • No way to assign one keystroke to take care of the task

Attendant Pro, an attendant console for Skype for Business, makes this Skype for Business Lync night mode 1-Click with no possibility of confusion or mistake. Or, you can assign receptionist Night Mode switching to a definable keyboard shortcut, for an Attendant Pro context, or a operating system wide context.

How do we configure this? Options| Quick Access Shortcuts | “Blank – change Call Forwarding” | Add Shortcut. Now just define the call forwarding you want for Skype for Business Lync night mode. Then repeat and create a shortcut for day mode.

Watch the below video for a walk through of creating a Skype for Business Lync night mode switch in Attendant Pro.

This method of achieving receptionist night mode works with Skype for Business Server, Lync Server & Office 365 Cloud PBX once it support auto attendants & call queues later this year.
